Xavier Lucas Transfers to Miami from Wisconsin Amid Revenue-Sharing Dispute, Setting Precedent
Jan 18, 2025, 11:49 PM
Former Wisconsin defensive back Xavier Lucas, a 4-star recruit, has transferred to the University of Miami without entering the NCAA transfer portal, following a dispute with Wisconsin over a revenue-sharing agreement. Lucas, who signed a two-year revenue-share deal with Wisconsin, requested a transfer after learning of his father's serious illness. Wisconsin refused to enter him into the portal, citing the agreement, a Big Ten template, that binds Lucas to the school and grants it the rights to use his name, image, and likeness under a NIL agreement. During his freshman season, Lucas recorded 12 tackles and 1 interception. Lucas has since unenrolled from Wisconsin and enrolled at Miami, a move that could set a precedent for future transfers outside the portal system. The NCAA has stated that its rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from one institution and enrolling at another to compete immediately.
