Everton Sacks Sean Dyche Amid Poor Results; Baines and Coleman to Lead FA Cup Clash
Jan 9, 2025, 04:34 PM
Everton Football Club has sacked manager Sean Dyche with immediate effect, the club announced. Dyche, 58, departs after a two-year tenure, with his contract originally set to expire at the end of the season. The decision comes just hours before Everton's FA Cup match against Peterborough scheduled for 19:45 tonight. Leighton Baines, the club's professional development coach and Under 18s coach, and captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of the team for the match. The sacking follows a dismal run of results that left the Toffees in the relegation zone. The club's new owners, the Friedkin Group, who completed their takeover less than a month ago, acted swiftly after reviewing Dyche's performance. Dyche had previously acknowledged that the new owners "should be" assessing his work at the club. There are reports linking José Mourinho with a potential return to the Premier League as Everton's next manager.
