DOJ Fires Over a Dozen Officials from Jack Smith's Team Prosecuting Trump
Jan 27, 2025, 10:00 PM
The U.S. Justice Department is firing over a dozen officials who played a significant role on former Special Counsel Jack Smith's team prosecuting President Donald Trump. Acting Attorney General James McHenry stated that these officials could not be trusted to faithfully implement the president's agenda, saying, "Given your significant role in prosecuting President Trump, the Acting Attorney General does not trust these officials to assist in faithfully implementing the president’s agenda." Jack Smith had resigned prior to Trump taking office. Major news outlets, including ABC, NBC, and Reuters, reported that the firings are part of an effort to end the perceived weaponization of the Justice Department under the Trump administration.
