WHO Coordinates Evacuation of 140 Patients Daily from Gaza as Nasser Hospital Overwhelmed with 40 Beds
Dec 31, 2024, 06:28 AM
The pediatric ward at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza has been overwhelmed, averaging about 140 patients daily despite only having 40 beds. Conditions have forced patients to sleep on mats in hallways, heightening the risk of infection. In response to the dire situation, the World Health Organization (WHO) is coordinating the evacuation of several children and patients from Gaza for critical medical treatment abroad. This effort comes after prolonged delays attributed to Israeli-imposed restrictions. The evacuations are reportedly taking place in collaboration with the Children's No Numbers Foundation, with some patients being sent to the UAE for further care. The Health Ministry in Gaza has confirmed that dozens of children and patients are being transferred as part of this initiative.
