Biden Exits with 36.2% Approval, Lower Than Trump's Post-January 6 Rating; Trump Returns with 52% Favorability
Jan 14, 2025, 12:44 PM
President Joe Biden, 82, is leaving office with notably low approval ratings, according to recent polls. An Emerson College Polling survey conducted on January 10-11 of 1,000 registered voters found Biden with a 37% approval rating in the final week of his presidency, 12 points lower than when Emerson first polled his approval in 2021. Another poll reported his approval rating has fallen to 36.2%, the lowest of his presidency, making him more unpopular than Donald Trump following the events of January 6th. A Gallup poll conducted last month found that most Americans believe the U.S. lost ground on key issues such as education, race relations, energy, infrastructure, and immigration during Biden's four years in office. Nearly half of respondents rated Biden as a "poor" or "terrible" president, with only about one-quarter describing him as "good" or "great." Comparatively, Biden's final approval ratings are lower than those of his immediate predecessors, including Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush. As Biden's term ends, President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the Oval Office with a reported favorability rating of 52%, according to Emerson College Polling.
