Jan 20, 2025, 01:04 AM
Jeff Torborg, former MLB catcher and manager, passed away on Sunday morning in Westfield, New Jersey, at the age of 83. A defensive standout, Torborg played 358 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers and California Angels. He caught Sandy Koufax's perfect game in 1965, Bill Singer's no-hitter, and Nolan Ryan's first no-hitter in 1973. As a manager, he was named the 1990 American League Manager of the Year after leading the Chicago White Sox to a 94–68 record, a 25-game improvement from the previous season. The Los Angeles Dodgers offered their condolences, remembering Torborg as a respected manager and a true class act.
