Shamsud-Din Jabbar Used Meta Smart Glasses to Plan New Orleans Attack, Killing 14
Jan 6, 2025, 02:18 AM
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man responsible for the truck attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day that killed 14 people, had visited the city twice before the incident, according to the FBI. During his October visit, Jabbar recorded video of the French Quarter using Meta smart glasses while cycling through the area. He returned to New Orleans in November. Additionally, Jabbar traveled to Cairo, Egypt, and Ontario, Canada, in the summer of 2023, though it remains unclear if these trips were related to the attack. The FBI has released video footage showing Jabbar placing two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the French Quarter shortly before the attack. Jabbar, a former U.S. Army soldier, was fatally shot by police after the attack, which he carried out in support of the Islamic State militant group.
