Meta to Deploy AI-Generated Characters on Facebook and Instagram for 3 Billion Users, Says VP Connor Hayes
Dec 30, 2024, 04:57 PM
Meta Platforms Inc. is set to introduce AI-generated characters to its social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, in an effort to enhance user engagement. These AI entities will mimic real user accounts, featuring bios, profile pictures, and the ability to generate and share content. Connor Hayes, Meta's vice-president of product for generative AI, stated that these AI characters are expected to become a regular presence on Meta's platforms, similar to how regular accounts function. The initiative is part of Meta's broader strategy to leverage artificial intelligence to make its apps more entertaining and engaging for its 3 billion users. Meta has already rolled out AI Studio, a tool that allows users to create their own AI characters, with hundreds of thousands of such characters created since its launch in July.
