BNP Paribas to Acquire AXA Investment Managers for €5.1 Billion, Aiming for €1.5 Trillion in Assets by Mid-2025
Dec 23, 2024, 08:15 AM
BNP Paribas has signed an agreement to acquire AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) from AXA for €5.1 billion. The deal, which follows exclusive negotiations that began on August 1, is expected to close by mid-2025. The acquisition aims to create a major European asset management player with combined assets under management totaling €1.5 trillion, of which €850 billion are from AXA IM. The transaction includes a long-term partnership where AXA will entrust part of its capital management to the new entity. The deal is anticipated to impact BNP Paribas's CET1 ratio by 25 basis points, subject to regulatory approval. BNP Paribas Cardif will integrate AXA IM, with Renaud Dumora, President of BNP Paribas Cardif and Deputy CEO of BNP Paribas, stating that teams are now working to welcome AXA IM's employees and clients. Thomas Buberl, CEO of AXA, highlighted the importance of this step in developing the long-term partnership with BNP Paribas, ensuring clients continue to benefit from top-tier investment solutions.
