U.S. Military Evacuates Travis Timmerman from Syrian Prison
Dec 13, 2024, 07:05 PM
The U.S. military has flown Travis Timmerman, an American citizen who was imprisoned in Syria, out of the country. Timmerman, 29, had been detained for seven months in the notorious Palestine Branch, a detention facility operated by Syrian intelligence. He was released by Syrian opposition forces and was among thousands of prisoners freed this week. Timmerman was transported out of Syria on a U.S. military helicopter, according to a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing operation. Timmerman had traveled to Syria on a Christian pilgrimage and reported that he was not ill-treated during his imprisonment. He was released alongside a young Syrian man and 70 female prisoners, some with children.
