Rheinmetall to Supply 180,000 Rounds of 35mm HEI-T Ammunition to Ukraine, Funded by Germany, Deliveries in 2026
Jan 6, 2025, 12:20 PM
Rheinmetall AG has secured a contract to supply Ukraine with an additional 180,000 rounds of 35mm High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer (HEI-T) ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun. The order, valued in the high double-digit million euro range, was finalized in December 2024 and is being funded by the German government. The ammunition, designed to counter airborne threats including drones, will be produced at Rheinmetall's facility in Unterlüß, Germany, where the production line was rebuilt in the spring of 2023 to meet increased demand. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026. This follows an earlier order in February 2023 for 300,000 rounds of Gepard ammunition. Germany has previously supplied Ukraine with 55 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, which were decommissioned by the Bundeswehr and have been operational in Ukraine's air defense for over two years.
