Dec 30, 2024, 08:45 AM
South Korea has initiated a comprehensive safety inspection of all 101 Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by its airlines following a deadly crash at Muan International Airport. The crash, which occurred on Sunday, involved a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 that failed to deploy its front landing gear during landing, resulting in the deaths of 179 out of 181 people on board. Acting President Choi Sang-mok has ordered an emergency review of the country's entire airline operation system to prevent future incidents. The transport ministry plans to inspect all 101 Boeing 737-800 jetliners in the country, with a focus on Jeju Air, which operates 39 of these aircraft. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and Boeing are expected to participate in the investigation into the crash, which is the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea since 1997.
