A federal judge in Seattle temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship in the United States, calling it 'blatantly unconstitutional.' Judge John C. Coughenour, a Reagan appointee with over four decades on the bench, issued the temporary restraining order on Thursday. 'I have been on the bench for over four decades. I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order,' he stated. The executive order, signed by President Trump on his first day back in office, sought to deny automatic citizenship to children born on U.S. soil to undocumented immigrants and temporary visa holders. The lawsuit was filed by Democratic-led states including Washington, Illinois, Oregon, and Arizona, arguing that the order violated the Fourteenth Amendment's guarantee of citizenship to anyone born in the United States. The temporary restraining order blocks the enforcement of the executive order nationwide. The Justice Department is expected to appeal the decision, potentially bringing the case before the Supreme Court.
