Man Arrested with Machete and Knives at U.S. Capitol Ahead of Trump's Visit
Jan 8, 2025, 09:06 PM
On Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man who attempted to bring a machete and three knives into the Capitol Visitor Center. The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. during routine security screening when officers spotted the weapons in the man's bag via the X-ray machine. The man was immediately taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of carrying dangerous weapons. The Capitol Visitor Center was particularly busy as members of the public were paying respects to former President Jimmy Carter, who was lying in state. The arrest took place just hours before President Donald Trump was scheduled to visit the Capitol.
