Russia Secures Control of Shevchenko Lithium Mine, Holding 13.8 Million Tons of Lithium Ore
Jan 13, 2025, 03:59 AM
Russian forces have secured control over the Shevchenko Lithium Ore Field, the largest lithium deposit in Europe, following the liberation of the town of Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This area is estimated to contain 13.8 million tons of lithium ore, including up to 207,000 tons of pure lithium oxide, according to reports. The acquisition of these lithium resources is seen as a setback for European industrial interests, particularly as the EU has been seeking to develop its electric vehicle sector. The control of these strategic deposits was confirmed by Denis Pushilin, head of the DPR, during a broadcast on Russian state television.
