Trump Establishes DOGE, Led by Elon Musk, to Reduce Government Size
Jan 21, 2025, 01:05 AM
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aiming to streamline federal operations and reduce government size and scope. "We will establish a Department of Government Efficiency," Trump said, emphasizing the need to make the bloated system leaner and more efficient. The new department will be led by Elon Musk and will consist of approximately 20 staff members tasked with overseeing a substantial reduction in bureaucracy. According to a fact sheet, DOGE will "oversee a substantial reduction in the size and scope of government." The initiative is reportedly inspired by Argentine President Javier Milei's Ministry of Deregulation.
