Jets Hire Aaron Glenn, Former Lions DC and 1994 First-Round Pick, as 19th Head Coach
Jan 22, 2025, 02:29 PM
The New York Jets have hired Aaron Glenn, the former defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, as their 19th head coach. Glenn, who is 52 years old and was selected by the Jets in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft, returns to the team after spending eight seasons as a player and later working as a scout. His hiring marks the end of an extensive search that saw the Jets interview 16 candidates. Glenn's defenses with the Lions showed improvement over his four-year tenure, despite challenges including injuries to key players. The Lions finished the season with a 15-2 record and were the No. 1 seed in the NFC before losing 45-31 in the playoffs. The Jets are looking to Glenn to lead a turnaround, following a disappointing 5-12 season in 2024 that led to the firing of coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. The decision on quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams will be among the first challenges for Glenn and the new general manager, Lance Newmark, who is expected to be hired alongside him.
