Israel Strikes Over 480 Times in Syria, Destroys 86% of Air Defenses, and Occupies Golan Heights
Dec 12, 2024, 03:18 PM
Following the collapse of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, Israel has launched an extensive military campaign in Syria, targeting strategic military facilities and naval assets. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted over 480 airstrikes, destroying approximately 86% of Syria's air defense systems, including 80% of its Pantsir systems and 90% of its Buk systems. The Israeli Navy has also neutralized Syrian missile boats in the Mediterranean, with operations centered around the ports of Latakia and Minet el-Beida Bay. These actions have resulted in the destruction of the Syrian Navy's Mediterranean fleet. Israel's offensive aims to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of extremists and to secure its borders. The IDF has also moved troops into the demilitarized zone of the Golan Heights, expanding its control over Syrian territory. The campaign has significantly weakened Syria's military capabilities, with Israeli forces targeting airfields, military vehicles, anti-aircraft weapons, weapons production sites, and naval bases. Israel's actions are driven by concerns over the potential transfer of chemical weapons and the need to maintain security against possible threats from a post-Assad Syria.
