Iran Executions Surge to 1,000 in 2024, Including 34 Women and 7 Juveniles, Amid Regime's Crackdown
Jan 2, 2025, 06:35 PM
Iran saw a significant increase in executions in 2024, with at least 1,000 people executed across 86 prisons in 31 provinces, according to reports from the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and other sources. The executions included 34 women, 7 juvenile offenders, and 119 Baluchis, with four public hangings reported. The surge in executions is attributed to the regime's efforts to quell dissent amid escalating crises. On the first day of 2025, at least 12 prisoners were executed in various locations including Qezel Hesar, Bandar Abbas, Yasuj, and Malayer. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI, stated that these executions are an attempt by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to suppress the popular uprising demanding the regime's overthrow. The executions in 2024 represent a 16% increase from the 864 recorded in 2023, with nearly 47% occurring in the last quarter of the year. Since late July, under the presidency of Masoud Pezeshkian, 695 executions were carried out.
