Red Sox Sign Aroldis Chapman to One-Year, $10.75M Deal Pending Physical

The Boston Red Sox have reached an agreement with free-agent reliever Aroldis Chapman on a straight one-year contract worth $10.75 million, pending a physical. The 36-year-old left-handed pitcher, ranked No. 4 among MLB free-agent relief pitchers for 2025, is known for his high strikeout rate and fastball velocity. He recorded a 3.79 ERA and 14.30 strikeouts per nine innings across 61.2 innings pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. Chapman, who has 335 career saves, the third most among active players, will provide much-needed left-handed depth to the Red Sox bullpen, which struggled in certain metrics during the 2023 season.
