Meta to Build Largest Data Center in Louisiana with 1,500 MW Renewable Energy
Dec 5, 2024, 01:01 PM
Meta Platforms Inc. has announced plans to build its largest data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, which will be powered by renewable energy through a partnership with Entergy Corp. The new facility is part of Meta's commitment to sustainability, with the company investing in at least 1,500 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy through Entergy's Geaux Zero Program. Additionally, Meta has committed to contributing up to $1 million annually to Entergy's 'The Power to Care' program, supporting low-income ratepayers. The construction of this data center, which will be the largest among Meta's more than 20 data centers worldwide, will be undertaken by Turner, a subsidiary of ACS. This move aligns with Meta's broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, as evidenced by its recent purchase of solar power credits from projects in Ohio, Texas, New Mexico, and Arkansas, totaling 760 MW, enough to power 130,000 homes.
