Ninth U.S. Telecom Company Hacked in Salt Typhoon Chinese Espionage Campaign, Less Than 100 Impacted
Dec 27, 2024, 06:39 PM
The White House has confirmed that a ninth telecommunications company has been added to the list of victims of the Salt Typhoon cyber espionage campaign attributed to Chinese hackers. Previously, eight companies were known to have been affected. In response to the ongoing threat, the White House has issued a threat-hunting and hardening guide to telecoms aimed at mitigating the risks posed by these cyberattacks. Officials noted that the Salt Typhoon incidents largely resulted from the failure of telecom companies to implement basic cybersecurity measures. The number of individuals directly impacted by these breaches is reported to be less than 100.
