Jan 15, 2025, 11:24 AM
The Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) has finalized a deal with Embraer for the purchase of five A-29 Super Tucano aircraft. This agreement, signed on January 14, 2025, is part of Uruguay's fleet renewal program and follows an initial firm order for one aircraft in August 2024. The contract includes mission equipment, integrated logistics services, and a flight simulator to enhance the FAU's operational capabilities. The A-29 Super Tucano, a light attack and trainer aircraft manufactured by Brazil-based Embraer Defense and Security, is designed for tactical operations, training, and border surveillance. Uruguay becomes the sixth South American country to operate this model, joining Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Paraguay. The aircraft is now in use by 20 operators worldwide, with over 290 orders completed. Embraer highlighted the strengthening of its 50-year relationship with Uruguay through this deal. General Luis H. De León, Commander in Chief of the FAU, emphasized the technological advancements this acquisition represents, enabling Uruguay to address evolving regional security challenges. Bosco da Costa Junior, CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, noted the company's commitment to supporting Uruguay's operational readiness and strategic missions. Uruguay's Minister of Defense, Armando Castaingdebat, stated that the acquisition enhances the country's airspace defense capabilities.
