Giuliani Settles $148 Million Defamation Case With Georgia Election Workers
Jan 16, 2025, 06:32 PM
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and personal attorney to former President Donald Trump, was scheduled to appear in federal court on Thursday as the first witness in a trial to determine whether he must turn over his Florida condominium and three New York Yankees World Series rings to satisfy a $148 million defamation judgment awarded to two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, after he falsely accused them of electoral fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Giuliani failed to appear at the trial, leading to delays and its eventual postponement. Later, court records indicated that Giuliani and the election workers had reached a settlement, allowing him to retain ownership of his Palm Beach condo and his apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
