Trump Vows to Pursue Death Penalty After Biden Commutes 37 Death Sentences
Dec 24, 2024, 06:32 PM
President-elect Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden for commuting the death sentences of 37 of the 40 federal inmates on death row, including individuals convicted of violent crimes such as murder and child rape. Calling the decision 'a slap in the face' to victims and their families, Trump pledged to direct the Department of Justice to 'vigorously pursue the death penalty' upon taking office. 'When you hear the acts of each, you won't believe that he did this. Makes no sense. Relatives and friends are further devastated. They can't believe this is happening,' Trump stated. Trump's communications director, Steven Cheung, described Biden's action as 'abhorrent,' emphasizing that these are 'among the worst killers in the world.'
