China Executes 62-Year-Old Fan Weiqiu for Killing 35 in Zhuhai Car Attack
Jan 20, 2025, 07:43 AM
China has executed 62-year-old Fan Weiqiu, who was convicted of killing 35 people and injuring 43 others by deliberately driving his car into a crowd at a sports center in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, on November 11, 2024. The execution was carried out on January 20, 2025, by the Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court, following the execution order issued by the Supreme People's Court. Fan was sentenced to death on December 27, 2024, for endangering public safety by dangerous means and was deprived of political rights for life. The attack was reportedly motivated by Fan's dissatisfaction with the division of property following his divorce. This incident was China's deadliest mass attack in recent years.
