Israeli Airstrikes Kill 33 in Gaza Refugee Camp, Including Journalists and Doctor
Dec 13, 2024, 08:15 AM
Israeli airstrikes on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least 33 Palestinians, including women and children, according to Gaza health authorities. The strikes targeted a residential block and a post office sheltering displaced families, resulting in over 50 injuries and leaving many people missing under the rubble. Among the dead were journalists Shadi Salfiti and Wasim Shawa, as well as northern Gaza's only orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Sa'aed Juda, whose death brought the toll among healthcare workers to 1,057. The Israeli military stated that the target was a senior Islamic Jihad member, but Gaza's Government Media Office condemned the attack as a "barbaric and heinous massacre," noting that most victims were civilians, including women and children. The death toll in Gaza on Thursday reached at least 66, deepening the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
