Netanyahu Makes Historic Visit to Captured Mount Hermon in Syria with Defense Minister Katz
Dec 17, 2024, 03:11 PM
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conducted a situational assessment on Tuesday at the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz, the IDF Chief of Staff, the Northern Command Major General, and the head of the Shin Bet. Netanyahu reviewed the IDF's preparedness in the area and set guidelines for the future. Referring to the peak of Mount Hermon as 'the eyes of the State of Israel to detect near and far threats,' Netanyahu's visit marks a significant event as it is possibly the first time an Israeli Prime Minister has stepped foot on Syrian territory. Israeli forces have been deployed on Mount Hermon since capturing the strategic location overlooking Damascus last week.
