EU Targets Apple, Google, Meta, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok with New Hate Speech Code of Conduct
Jan 20, 2025, 12:50 PM
The European Union has intensified its scrutiny of major tech companies, including Apple, Google, Meta, and X, in light of new regulations aimed at combating illegal hate speech online. The EU has introduced a revised 'Code of Conduct on Countering Illegal Hate Speech Online +' as part of the Digital Services Act (DSA), which mandates online platforms to enhance their efforts in managing and removing illegal hate speech content. Notably, several companies, including Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, have signed this strengthened code of conduct, which the European Commission has welcomed as a crucial step towards protecting democracy and fundamental rights.
