US Army Approves M1147 AMP Round Production on January 17 for Abrams Tank

On January 17, 2025, the U.S. Army approved the full-rate production of the M1147 120mm Advanced Multi-Purpose (AMP) round, a significant step in modernizing its ammunition capabilities. Developed under the Joint Program Executive Officer for Armaments & Ammunition, this new round consolidates four legacy 120mm tank munitions into a single versatile solution, enhancing the firepower of the M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. The AMP round is equipped with a multi-mode programmable fuze, offering three selectable modes: point detonate, point detonate delay, and airburst, enabling it to address a variety of combat scenarios.
