Han Dong-hoon Resigns as South Korea's Ruling Party Leader, Cites Collapse of Leadership
Dec 16, 2024, 01:44 AM
Han Dong-hoon, the leader of South Korea's ruling People Power Party, announced his resignation on December 16th, stating, "I step down as the leader of the People Power Party." In a press conference at the National Assembly, Han cited the collapse of the party's supreme council as making it impossible to perform his duties. He apologized to the public, saying, "I sincerely apologize to all the people who have suffered." Han emphasized, "I still do not regret" his recent actions and warned that if the party aligns with "extreme conspiracy theorists," there will be "no future for conservatism." His resignation comes 146 days after being elected party leader in the July 23rd convention. The party is expected to appoint new leadership as it navigates the current political crisis.
