Salt Typhoon Hackers Target Senior U.S. Officials and Telecom Firms
Dec 7, 2024, 05:55 PM
Chinese state-sponsored hackers, identified as the Salt Typhoon group, have reportedly targeted and recorded phone calls of senior U.S. political figures, according to U.S. intelligence officials. The cyber espionage campaign, codenamed Salt Typhoon, also compromised at least eight U.S. telecommunication companies, raising concerns about the security of critical infrastructure. Anne Neuberger, Deputy National Security Advisor, confirmed the allegations and emphasized the severity of the threat. In response, the FBI has urged telecommunication firms to bolster their cybersecurity measures to prevent further breaches.
