Russia Targets Ukraine's Energy Grid in 'Inhumane' Christmas Attack
Dec 25, 2024, 04:45 PM
Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Christmas Day, killing at least one person and causing widespread blackouts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks as 'inhumane' and accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of deliberately choosing Christmas for the strike, asking, 'What could be more inhumane?' According to Ukrainian officials, Russia fired over 70 missiles and more than 100 drones, with Ukraine's air defenses reportedly shooting down more than 50 missiles and many drones. The attacks targeted cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk, leaving over half a million people without heating, water, and electricity. The strikes prompted Ukrainians to seek shelter in metro stations.
