On Thursday, Hamas released Israeli soldier, 20-year-old Agam Berger, who was abducted during her military service on October 7, 2023. The handover occurred among the rubble of Gaza's Jabalia refugee camp, which was destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. Berger was the first of eight hostages released today under the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. She was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross and has since crossed into Israeli territory, reuniting with her family at an initial reception point in southern Israel. Two Israeli civilians, 29-year-old German-Israeli national Arbel Yehud and 80-year-old Gadi Moses, as well as five Thai nationals, are also set to be released later in the day. The hostages have been held captive since October 2023. The exchange is part of a hostages-prisoners swap deal mediated by Qatar and Egypt, with the Red Cross facilitating the transfers. Berger's family expressed gratitude upon her return.
