China's Sixth-Generation 'Baidi' Fighter Jet, World's First, Makes Maiden Flight with J-20S
Dec 26, 2024, 09:06 AM
China's new sixth-generation fighter jet, reportedly codenamed 'Baidi' or 'White Emperor,' successfully completed its maiden flight on December 26, 2024, shortly after 4 p.m. local time in Chengdu. Developed by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG), the aircraft features a unique flying wing configuration and is believed to be powered by three engines with two side intakes and one on top of the fuselage. Observers noted the absence of vertical stabilizers, indicating advanced stealth capabilities. The fighter is designed as an integrated space-air craft capable of operating at extremely high altitudes. A twin-seat J-20S acted as a chase plane during the flight. This milestone positions China ahead in the development of next-generation combat aircraft, potentially making it the first country to test-fly a sixth-generation fighter.
