The five remaining members of the notorious 'Bali Nine' drug smuggling ring have returned to Australia after serving nearly 20 years in Indonesian prisons for attempting to smuggle 8.3 kilograms of heroin out of Bali. Their return was facilitated by a deal between the Australian and Indonesian governments, with no prisoner swap required. The men, Matthew Norman, Scott Rush, Martin Stephens, Si Yi Chen, and Michael Czugaj, expressed immense gratitude to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for his compassion in allowing their repatriation on humanitarian grounds. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese thanked President Prabowo for his cooperation, emphasizing the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations. The men will not serve further time in Australia and are expected to reintegrate into society, with the government providing temporary accommodation and support services.
