Los Angeles Imposes Nighttime Curfew in Wildfire Zones; 9,000 National Guard Troops Deployed Amid Looting
Jan 10, 2025, 05:40 PM
A nighttime curfew has been imposed in parts of Los Angeles affected by wildfires, as authorities seek to prevent looting in evacuated areas. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced that the curfew will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in all mandatory evacuation zones of the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, warning that violators will be subject to arrest. The California National Guard has been deployed, with approximately 9,000 guardsmen assisting law enforcement in securing neighborhoods and guarding against looters, particularly around the Pacific Palisades burn zone. The wildfires have led to the evacuation of approximately 180,000 residents, with at least ten deaths reported, over 14,000 hectares burned, and more than 10,000 buildings destroyed. Firefighters are making some progress on containment, but major fires continue to burn.
