China's Black Panther 2.0 Runs 100 Meters in Under 10 Seconds, Sets World Record
Jan 20, 2025, 06:30 AM
China's Black Panther 2.0, a quadruped robot developed by Zhejiang University and Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me, has set a new world record by running 100 meters in under 10 seconds. The robot, weighing 38 kilograms and standing 0.63 meters tall, achieves a peak speed of 10.4 meters per second. Its design is inspired by black panthers and jerboas, incorporating advanced features such as carbon-fiber shins for improved stiffness, cheetah-inspired running shoes for better grip, and spring-loaded knee joints to absorb shock. Utilizing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Huygens’ linked pendulum concept, the robot adapts its gait dynamically to various terrains. This technological breakthrough highlights advancements in robotics mobility and efficiency, with potential applications in various industries. The achievement surpasses the previous record of 19.87 seconds held by South Korea's HOUND robot. The Black Panther 2.0's development reflects China's focus on innovation in robotics, as the nation continues to lead in automation and AI technologies.
