Ukrainian Drones Hit Kazan High-Rises; Airport Closed, Evacuations Ordered

Multiple Ukrainian drones struck high-rise residential buildings in Kazan, Russia, early on December 21, causing fires in the Sovetsky, Kirovsky, and Privolzhsky districts and prompting evacuations. Local authorities reported that at least eight drones were involved in the attack, with six targeting residential areas and one an industrial enterprise. Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin instructed officials to provide evacuated residents with warm clothes and food. The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, arrived at the scene. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that air defense systems destroyed a Ukrainian drone over Kazan. Operations at Kazan Airport were temporarily suspended following the attacks. No casualties have been reported.
