Teamsters Launch Historic Amazon Strike at Seven Facilities Ahead of Christmas
Dec 19, 2024, 02:32 PM
Thousands of Amazon workers across the United States walked off the job at 6 a.m. ET on Thursday, during the crucial final days of the holiday season, less than a week before Christmas. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, representing about 10,000 workers at ten Amazon facilities, announced that workers at seven facilities—including locations in California, New York's Queens borough, Skokie, Illinois, and Atlanta, Georgia—are striking to pressure the e-commerce giant into negotiating a labor agreement. The union claims this is the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history and aims to secure better wages, benefits, and working conditions. Amazon has failed to come to the bargaining table and stated it expects operations to be largely unaffected despite the strike.
