Saquon Barkley to Rest, Will Finish 101 Yards Shy of Eric Dickerson's Rushing Record
Dec 31, 2024, 08:18 PM
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has surpassed 2,000 rushing yards this season, becoming only the ninth player in NFL history to achieve this milestone. Barkley is now just 101 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. With the Eagles locked into the No. 2 seed for the playoffs, head coach Nick Sirianni faced a decision on whether to play Barkley against the New York Giants to give him a chance at the record or to rest him for the postseason. Sirianni consulted with Barkley before announcing that they will "rest some guys," including Barkley, in the final game. He acknowledged that the decision was "not an easy decision," but emphasized that the team's best interests come first. As a result, Barkley will finish the season 101 yards shy of the record.
