Venezuela Investigates María Corina Machado for Treason over Support of U.S. 'Bolivar Act' (HR 825)
Nov 23, 2024, 12:03 AM
The Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation against opposition leader María Corina Machado on charges of treason, conspiracy with foreign nations, and association to commit crimes. Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced on Friday that Machado is being investigated for promoting and supporting the 'Bolivar Act' (HR 825), a bill approved by the U.S. House of Representatives that seeks to impose additional sanctions on Venezuela. The 'Bolivar Act' aims to prohibit U.S. government institutions from contracting with individuals or companies that have commercial ties with the Venezuelan government. As a result of the investigation, Machado risks detention and imprisonment.
