Jun 28, 2024, 04:10 AM
China's commerce ministry announced an increase in the duty-free shopping quota for mainland visitors to Hong Kong and Macao. The new limit will allow visitors to spend up to CNY12,000 (USD1,650), up from the previous limit of CNY5,000 (USD690). Passengers can also spend an additional CNY3,000 at duty-free shops in airports. The measure is expected to boost the Hong Kong economy by at least HK$2.7 billion, with the HKSAR government estimating an additional HK$8.8 billion ($1.13 billion) in economic benefits. The changes will take effect next week, allowing visitors up to $2,064 of duty-free shopping.
