Poll: 41% of Young Voters Deem UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's Killing by Luigi Mangione Acceptable
Dec 17, 2024, 08:20 PM
A recent Emerson College poll has revealed that 41% of young voters aged 18-29 consider the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson to be acceptable, slightly more than the 40% who find it unacceptable. Within this demographic, 24% found the killing somewhat acceptable, and 17% found it completely acceptable, while 19% remained neutral. This poll, conducted between December 11-13 among 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of 3 percentage points, also showed that 68% of all respondents across various demographics deemed the killing unacceptable. The incident, which occurred on December 4 in New York City, involved Thompson being shot twice, first in the back and then again as he fell. Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old, was arrested on December 9 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a tip from a McDonald's employee, in connection with the shooting and faces charges related to Thompson's death. Mangione is scheduled to appear in court in Pennsylvania on December 21 for gun charges, with an extradition hearing set for December 30 as New York seeks to bring him to face a murder charge. The poll highlighted a significant generational and political divide, with 22% of Democrats finding the killing acceptable compared to 16% of independents and 12% of Republicans.
