Luigi Mangione Arrested in CEO Brian Thompson's Murder; Gun Matches Shell Casings
Dec 11, 2024, 05:23 PM
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was shot and killed on December 4 while walking to a Manhattan hotel for an investor conference. The suspect, 26-year-old Ivy League graduate Luigi Mangione, was arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after being recognized by a cashier. Police say that Mangione's fingerprints match those found at the crime scene on a water bottle and a KIND bar wrapper. Additionally, the NYPD Commissioner stated that the ghost gun found in Mangione's possession matches shell casings recovered at the scene. Authorities also found a notebook in which Mangione allegedly considered using a bomb to kill the CEO but decided against it to avoid harming innocents. Mangione was reported missing two weeks before the CEO's death, and his parents told law enforcement they hadn't heard from him in months. He is contesting his extradition to New York and had an outburst while being led into court. His lawyer says he has not seen any evidence linking his client to the shooting and that Mangione will plead not guilty.
