Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Hits Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture, No Tsunami Warning
Jun 2, 2024, 09:57 PM
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture, particularly affecting the Noto Peninsula in central Japan, early on Monday. The earthquake had an intensity of 5 on Japan's 1-7 scale and occurred at a depth of 4.8 km. The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that there was no tsunami warning issued following the quake. The Japanese government has issued an emergency warning for potential new earthquakes in the Ishikawa Prefecture. The quake was followed minutes later by a second, smaller quake. This quake comes just over six months after a powerful temblor rocked the same area, and damage appeared to be limited.
