Miami-Dade County has officially renamed a portion of Palm Avenue in Hialeah to 'President Donald J. Trump Avenue' to honor President-elect Donald J. Trump's historic win in the county during the 2024 election. This decision marks the first time since 1988 that a Republican presidential candidate has won Miami-Dade County, flipping it from a Democratic stronghold. The renaming was ratified by the Miami-Dade County Commission, with Commissioner K.M. Cabrera stating it was in recognition of Trump’s legacy of championing freedom and opportunity. Despite opposition from some Democratic members of the board, including Commissioner Marleine Bastien who voted no, the initiative was approved, highlighting the significant political shift in the region.
