Israeli Airstrike Flattens Beirut Building, Killing 11 and Injuring 63; Senior Hezbollah Commander Targeted
Nov 23, 2024, 08:02 AM
At least 11 people were killed and 63 injured in an Israeli airstrike on central Beirut early Saturday, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. At approximately 4 a.m., Israeli forces launched four bunker-buster bombs targeting an eight-story residential building on Fathallah Street in the Basta neighborhood. The building was flattened, causing severe damage to nearby structures. The attack was reportedly aimed at Muhammad Haydar, Hezbollah's head of operations, though initial reports also mentioned possible targets Naim Qassem or Talal Hamiya, other senior Hezbollah figures. The initial death toll was four but rose as rescue teams worked to recover victims from the rubble. The Israeli military has not commented on the strike.
