Iran Executes 20-Year-Old Jewish Man Arvin Ghahremani Despite Self-Defense Claim
Nov 4, 2024, 08:28 AM
Iranian authorities have executed Arvin Nathaniel Ghahremani, also known as Erwin Nathaniel Kahramani, a 20-year-old Iranian Jewish man from Kermanshah. Ghahremani was sentenced to death at age 18 for the fatal stabbing of a Muslim man during a street brawl in 2022, which he claimed was self-defense after being ambushed at a gym. Human rights organizations and international officials had appealed for clemency, arguing that the trial was unfair. Reports suggest that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps may have pressured the victim's family not to accept a financial settlement that could have prevented the execution. Despite these efforts, the execution was carried out on Monday morning in western Iran.
