Fani Willis Appeals Disqualification from Trump Georgia Election Subversion and RICO Case Due to Romantic Relationship
Jan 9, 2025, 06:14 PM
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court to reverse her disqualification from the election subversion and RICO case against Donald Trump and others. Willis was disqualified by the Georgia Court of Appeals in December due to her romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor on the case. In her appeal, Willis argues that the appellate court overreached in its decision and that no Georgia court has ever disqualified a district attorney solely based on the appearance of impropriety without an actual conflict of interest. Willis contends that the lower court's ruling, initially upheld by Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, disregarded decades of precedent and created a new standard for disqualification that it lacked the authority to enact.
